A senior of Woodrow Wilson High School, Kate Fisher is ready to graduate this spring. Kate is the daughter of Woodrow Alumni Lora and Ricky Fisher. Upon graduating Kate has plans to attend Marshall University as a dietetics major. As a student of Woodrow, Kate has been a participant of many organizations: Theatre Performance, Tri-M, National Honors Society, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Throughout all four years of her high school career Kate has been noticed as a prominent dancer. In last year’s production of Tarzan, Kate portrayed the role of the Leopard which included two dance solos. In this year’s production of The Wizard of Oz Kate’s dancing ability was used once again in the representation of snow. Additionally, Kate helped choreograph the extensive Munchkin Sequence dance.
As Vice-President of the National Honors Society, Kate has helped in the organization of many events. “At our first official meeting at the end of our junior year, we had an election where everyone in the group voted on President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. In this election I was elected as Vice President. Maggie, our president, and I typically tag team events. My job has mostly been to make sure everyone is doing what they’re supposed to during an event such as our blood drives. In the beginning of the year I helped with our fundraiser raffle drawings for our honors society New York trip and Project Graduation.”
Additionally, Kate has been a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes since her freshman year. Throughout her time in the group, Kate has climbed to achieve the role of Student Leader.
Outside of school Kate attends local dance studio Rhythms of Grace and teaches young dancers periodically throughout the week. During her free time Kate volunteers at the Beckley Area Foundation, taking part in the Susan Landis Youth Philanthropy group.
In addition to participating in a variety of activities, Kate is also an advanced placement student and will be graduating with a multitude of college credits. “As an Advanced Placement student, time management is everything! If you are participating in extracurricular activities especially.”
Jerri Stack who has been Kate’s instructor consecutively since freshman year describes Fisher as, “a faithful actor and dancer in our productions during her time at Woodrow. […] My favorite memories of her onstage will always be when she was the leopard in Tarzan and “snow” in The Wizard of Oz.”
The students and staff of Woodrow Wilson High School wish Kate much luck as she steps into the next chapter of her life.
