Stanaford Missionary Baptist Church has been hosting 5th Quarter this year in a new activity building. Dedicated to providing a safe space for students, the church members of SMBC have hosted the organization for the previous 13 years.
Beginning after the conclusion of each Woodrow Wilson High School home football game, students of all diversity are welcome to food, games, prizes, and fellowship. Staples of the teenage diet: deep fried Oreos, pizza, sandwiches, and chips have been featured over the years. Prizes include but are not limited to t-shirts, hoodies, and gift cards of all variety. This year games have included a doughnut eating contest, bowling, and of course the famed corn hole tournament. Additionally the features of Mario Kart and Air Nine Square will be available at the next event.
For safety reasons, security will be present in all parts of the church. Parking will be available in both the front and back lots, with spacious spots for all vehicle types. Upon arrival of the church, located on the corner of Stanaford and Hoist Road, students are asked to enter through the double doors in the back parking lot. For those who do not drive, parents must be present by midnight for pickup.
“After the big game, the night doesn’t have to end! 5th Quarter is the perfect place to hang out with your friends, so invite your teammates and come see what 5th Quarter is all about,” volunteer Melissa Farrish states boldly.
The third home game and next 5th Quarter will be hosted on the 4 of October, 2024. Chicken tenders, waffle fries, and drinks will be served. For more information and/or updates please follow the organizations official Facebook page, 5th Quarter of Beckley.
