It is time again for the festive holiday of Christmas. A common tradition for many people in Beckley W.Va., is going to see the stage production of The Nutcracker, produced by Beckley Dance Theatre. For some students, it has even become a tradition to put on the show itself.

Each year, there are coveted roles in The Nutcracker. One student, in particular, gets the joy of playing the beloved main character, Clara Stahlbaum. Lucy Bickey, a sophomore, was picked to play the character for the 2022 The Nutcracker tour at the Woodrow Wilson Auditorium on December 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and at the Greenbrier on December 29th and 30th.  

For Bickey, being Clara was always a dream of hers.  “ It’s amazing […] and so fulfilling!” said Bickey. Being the main character “there is a lot of pressure but it is a good type of pressure.” Bickeys favorite part about the role is being able to watch every act in the show. “ You see everything! You see the stage, the audience. You are an observer and it is beautiful!” Bickey is excited for being given the chance to be Clara for the 2022 The Nutcracker Season.
