The Seniors of Woodrow Wilson High School will soon take an important stepping stone towards their future as they participate in College Signing Day. College Signing Day is an event dedicated to recognizing graduating students and their post-secondary educational decision.
College Signing Day is scheduled for May 9 at 12:30 in the school’s auditorium. The event will bring together friends, family, and faculty as they celebrate the class of 2025 and watch their students sign letters of intent.
Counselor Kaitlyn Stover, is the primary organizer of the event. In a recent interview she explained the significance of College Signing Day. “The significance of College Signing Day for students at WWHS is that students get to celebrate and share their accomplishment of going off to college with their peers. Students work so hard for 13 years to go off to their next step, and we want to make it a big deal. Students who are participating in College Signing Day are solidifying their commitment to pursue higher education.”
In addition to Stover, Principal Ryan Stafford and the counseling department of WWHS have played a critical role in coordinating the event with college representatives. The counseling department serves as a critical component in the college application processes. Councilors are responsible for sending official transcripts, assisting with scholarships, and helping align student schedules with their career goals.
While the event is a celebration of post-secondary education, a reminder has been set to all students participating that “there is still time to change plans, and not everything has to be set in stone.” Stover encourages everyone to ” still take advantage of touring colleges and technical schools to see if they appeal to you.”
College Signing Day is not just a recognition for seniors but serves as an inspiration for underclassmen. “I think this event helps impact younger students who are not graduating yet by giving them ideas about different schools and majors they could look into,” Stover said. “I think this event will help motivate them to start looking into their own plans for after high school”.
WWHS students and staff are looking forward to what is only the second year of College Signing Day, and organizers hope to see participation continue to grow.
