Woodrow Wilson High School’s Robotics Team, 44713-B, impressed spectators with a brilliant performance on Feb. 8, 2025 at the West Virginia Universities Institution of Technology’s gym floor. The team who ranked third overall and claimed the top spot in skills at the preliminary rounds of the competition demonstrated much skill strength throughout the event.
From the start of the event the group’s robot construction scored a multitude of points with impressive autonomous movements, including a ring being place right on target and concrete driving performances. The crowd was on edge as the team delivered precise movement after precise movement, obtaining 20 points in comparison to the adversary’s 14 points. The primary reason for the large difference points is sourced from 44713-B’s superior defense.
After lunchtime, the preliminary rounds concluded and the start of the semi-finals began. In one of Woodrow Wilson High School’s key battles, the team of students found themselves challenged many times. However, through perseverance the team managed to defeat the opposing side by three points.
As the final component of the semi-finals began, things began to turn. The team was faced with a tough competitor who had already faced several call outs by the referees. At one point in the game an unexpected deliberation occurred resulting in the disqualification of Woodrow’s team, after a close review.
Despite being upset, the team took the stride, acknowledging the lessons they learned and looking towards the future. Both Coach and team members remain optimistic, focusing on refining both their design and strategy for the upcoming state competition. They are determined to return much stronger, learning from every experience and proving their worth once again.
