Friday, December 13th marks the return of another season in sports. With our past three sports teams, Volleyball, soccer, and football have come to a close, wrestling season is now starting at Woodrow. In this first game, they will be playing away in Tennessee. While being away they will also be playing against a variety of schools from different states. The team is very excited to start this year’s wrestling season in hopes of bringing home many wins as this year has been a golden one for our sports teams at Woodrow. Following the championship win of our boys’ soccer team we hope to see our wrestling team come out on top.
Vance Neal, a senior at Woodrow and member of the wrestling team was inspired to become a wrestler at the young age of four “I was influenced by my dad and brother being very active in the sport by their coaching and wrestling. This longevity throughout the years has motivated me and made me fall in love with the dedication.” Neal hasn’t skipped a year of wrestling since he was five years old. With this being his senior year of wrestling he is ready with dedication and excitement. How he plans to excel over the season is to study the others and see what new tricks he might learn. Neal shares his advice to those who also want to pursue wrestling. “Study the Sport, love the sport, commit to it. Find your identity in God and wrestle so that he may receive all glory.”
Senior Woodrow Wrestler Landon Jones has a particular set of goals for this season of wrestling. “I expect to become an Allstate placer and our team takes home the state championship.” Also being part of the football team, Jones hopes to continue with a great ongoing year in sports achievements. Support our team this year as they wrestle their way to the state championship.
