Throughout the course of the 2024 Soccer season, Woodrow Wilson High School’s Male Varsity Soccer Team has shined brilliantly. On Thursday November 2, 2024 the team achieved their placement in the state championship.
After 14 years of not attending states, both players and students have demonstrated a spirit of excitement throughout this previous week. Nicholas Fultz, senior, has been playing on the team since his freshman year. During the course of his final season, Nicholas has scored two goals, saved the team from a multitude of situations, and embodied a respectful contagious spirit.
Ayden Stafford, another senior of the team, has also been playing on the team since his freshman year. Contrasting the feelings of his peers, Fultz, Ayden feels nervous about this competition. Since his first game on the field, he has worked with great determination for this very moment. However, even with these nerves he still has full confidence in his team’s ability. Throughout the year, he has not only brought success but friendship over friendship.
Why all team members shine in their own light, junior, Coby Dillon produces something special. Having scored an impressive 16 goals this season, Coby has surpassed the achievements of his fellow players. However, this hard work does not just come over night. Throughout the season, and now more than ever Coby has been putting every spare moment into his game. “I’ve been coming to practice locked in and have been practicing with a lot of energy. I know it’ll be a tough game so we must be ready.” In addition to Coby being a top-notched student on the field, he performs well in class and always puts his schooling first.
With an estimated kick off of 12 o’clock the team will face rival Wheeling Park (20-3) at the Paul Cline Stadium. Students of the area have been encouraged to attend the game, being permitted with a parent note to leave campus in accordance. Students who have been granted permission to leave are encouraged to dress in their most festive Woodrow gear.
