With the FAFSA (free application for federal student aid) soon approaching the students of Woodrow Wilson High School are rattled with anticipation.
To help settle nerves and ensure the proper submission of applications, Woodrow Wilson High School’s counseling department will be hosting workshops between January 9 and February 20. These workshops are for seniors only and will be spontaneous in occurrence. Ms. Erica Hampton, who has been a councilor for the previous two years is the major responsible party for these events. In explanation she defines the FAFSA as a ““a free online form that you complete for the government to determine what financial aid that you would be eligible to receive to help pay for any community school, trade school, and certificate programs or a four year degree.”
When attending these workshops a required FAFSA identification, updated W-2 tax form, and social security card must be available. Additionally students who are in attendance should be of the graduating class as underclass men are not eligible.
In reflection of her responsibility, Ms. Hampton gives her personal testimony on how the FAFSA changed her life. “I love helping students complete Fafsa because I had a rough childhood and being able to go to school and getting the Fafsa completed helped me pay for school which got me out of bad situations and helped break the cycle.”
