Woodrow Wilson High School has recently developed a passionate and close knit Robotics team. Comprised of 15 to 20 members, stretched across four teams, the Robotics organization of Woodrow has brought a tremendous pride to our school.
The group of Eagles is divided among four areas of interest. Of these teams, one is solely composed of females from the Air Force Junior Reserves Officer Training Corps.
The Robotics team, as whole, tends to travel to a variety of competitions; sometimes commuting to three different places a month. Interestingly at these competitions, the team does not only show participation but also volunteerism.
Ms. Jo Frost, a mathematics teacher of WWHS, has been coaching the art of robotics for over a decade. She originally started with a community based team, before deciding to start an organization of her own at Woodrow. However, she has also directed a variety of youth sports. This idea was partially due to her son’s attendance at the school. Her first assignment was a soft skills portion of the First Lego League.
A personal goal of Frost’s is too see her team earning a spot at the World competition in Dallas. Worlds is the world level competition hosted for robotics, comprised of the best of the best teams.
To see our Robotics Team in flight, please attend their next competition in Pocahontas County on the 16 of November. Following this competition, the team will not participate in another event until the eighth and ninth of February at West Virginia Tech.
