Woodrow Wilson High School hosted their annual Homecoming parade on the 2nd of October 2024. Leading the floats, Ron Cantley, served as Grand Marshall of the parade. Woodrow’s cheerleaders, lassies, boys soccer, ladies soccer, baseball, volleyball, cross country, football, ROTC, science bowl, and the wrestling team were in attendance at the parade. The courts that were featured in the parade included Miss Flying Eagle, Sweetheart, Snowball, Prom, and Homecoming.
Along with the courts were our class floats and the theme this year was seasons. Seniors had winter, Juniors had summer, Sophomores had fall, and Freshmen had spring. The themes for the floats were voted on by the student council. The senior float was a winter wonderland consisting of Christmas characters such as Jack Frost played by senior Ram Asaithambi and the abominable snowman, Bumble, from Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer. Juniors created a sandy beach scenery with a mermaid played by junior Zoie Vance. The sophomores built a huge pumpkin and had scarecrows and a turkey played by sophomore, Janaisia Lawson. Lawson states that her favorite part about the parade was seeing the reactions from the little kids. “My favorite part was seeing all of the happy little kids when they saw me in my turkey costume.” Freshman created a spring scenery with handmade flowers, a paper mache egg, and a beehive. Vivian Webb, a freshman at Woodrow, exclaims that her favorite part about the parade was seeing all of the happy kids.”My favorite thing personally was getting to see how happy every kid was when they saw and the look on their faces when we threw them candy!” In order to create a spring scene, the freshman focused on creating flowers, trees, and foliage. “We really focused on making it look like a fairytale with all of our flowers, trees, foliage, etc.”
Other schools that participated in the parade were Crescent, Hollywood, Maxwell Hill, Stanaford Elementary, Stratton Elementary, Park Middle School, and Stratton Middle School. The winner of the class floats were the class of 2026.
