On the 18 of September 2024, Woodrow Wilson High School’s Air Force Junior Reserves Corp. competed against a multitude of high schools at Riverside. The competition concluded with the Raiders team earning second place overall, and the Beast Team obtaining a new high score.
In addition to a new fold of leaders, the team welcomes 13 freshman this year, “I think we started off with a really good team, especially with the freshmen, growing into important roles,” shares the leader of the troop, Dr. Shane Eaton. The Raiders team and the complete AFJROTC (Air Force Junior Reserves Officer Training Corps.) has retained more freshmen after the first month of school than ever before.
Eaton has been the AFJROTC instructor here at Woodrow for nine years and before that, he taught college aviation management courses for two years. When asked about his transfer to Woodrow, Eaton states that he is glad he was moved here. “I’m glad I do it. I think it’s beneficial for the kids.” Eaton is known to take pride in his cadets, whether they’re on the Raider team, the Drill team, or just a cadet in the course. Many will describe the course as a family rather than a set of classmates, and the Raiders team couldn’t agree with that statement more. The organization will compete at their own home competition next week.
