Woodrow Wilson High School’s 2024 female soccer team has won three games, lost four matches, and tied once. Their highest score 7:0, opened the season with a victory and their latest record of 4:3 reflected the determination of the team.
Preparations for the season have included practices daily after school. Typically athletes start with stretches and warm-ups, then do drills based on skills. Next, a small simulated game is created, which then progresses into a larger match. To conclude competitive performances are conducted with cooldowns.
Coach Julie Agnor has coached for the previous 27 seasons and strives for a united team of athletes. For her it’s not just about the team winning, but the team’s spirit. To ensure this Agnor has assigned the role of team captains to seniors, Lexi Scott and Isbella Umburger. These positions reflect the virtues of leadership and dedication which these students have shown tremendously.
In addition to serving as captains, the two also have responsibilities on the field. Umburger serves as the right defender position and Scott is a mid. With passion in their eyes, the two offer this advice, “no matter what you do, give it your all.”
The conclusion of the 2023 season ended at sectionals. However, the team this year is striving for a state championship, spreading the name of Woodrow Wilson High School throughout the state. “While at the end of the day, we want to win! It’s our team’s spirit that comes first,” Captain Scott shares.
