Courtney Vandall, an alumni of Woodrow Wilson High School, has graciously accepted the position of Adviser for the Eagle Dispatch.
With a strong commitment to the English Language Arts, Vandall initially pursued a degree in journalism during her college years. However, in search of greater job stability, she transitioned into the education program at West Virginia University. After earning her bachelor’s degree in 2015, she embraced a role in inclusion teaching. By 2018, Vandall had completed her master’s degree in education from West Virginia University and subsequently acquired an additional master’s degree in 2023. At this juncture, a shifted focus from special education to general education was made, teaching subjects such as Creative Writing, Mythology, English 11, and English 9.
Vandall’s teaching philosophy is significantly influenced by her mother, Mrs. Billie Vandall, and Mr. John Quesenberry. She expresses a desire to be the supportive adult she wished for during her teenage years, someone who believes in her students and aids them in discovering their authentic selves. To fulfill this aspiration, Vandall incorporates a mission statement of inclusion into her syllabus, fosters open communication, and offers support to those in need. “During lessons, I strive to create avenues for thought, encouraging students to trust in their own capabilities.”
In addition too her role as the Eagle Dispatch adviser, Vandall also co-sponsers the sewing club and serves as a mentor for Next Step. In her limited leisure time, she enjoys crafting, reading, playing video games, and caring for her several pets.
