With spring comes tennis season. Woodrow Wilson High School’s tennis team begins
their season on March 18 with a match against Ripley. Bernard Bostick, head coach,
has been teaching tennis for the past 12 years. Many things go into being on the
tennis team, such as teamwork, attitude, effort, and athleticism. Mutual support is a
fraction of the motivation behind the team. “We have great team camaraderie, and
always help to pick each other up in moments like these,” girls captain Abby Dillon
says. “We all work very hard in practice, and push each other everyday to reach our
goals and expectations.”
With practice five days a week, the players make sure they are prepared for whatever
comes with the season. Both the head coach and girl’s captain share a common goal of
making it to states this year. Dillon mentions that they have almost all of their top six girls
back on the team, so her hopes are high.
Dillon was asked what gave her the most motivation for tennis, “My parents give me
motivation for this sport. They always push me to do my best in all that I do, and that
keeps me working hard.”
