In America, roughly 146 million people carve pumpkins each year. In Cool Ridge, West Virginia, our local pumpkin patch, The Okes Family Farm can be located at at 614 Blue Jay 6 Rd. This is a family-owned farm that opened September 17, 2022, and closes on October 30, 2022. This pumpkin patch has a 4.7-star rating online and is known for its friendly hospitality.

The Okes Family Farm is open on Saturdays from 10am-5pm and Sundays from 12-5pm. Admission is $10 per person or $37 for a family of four, it is then $7 for each additional person. Kids four and under get in free. Admission covers all the fun activities, however, pumpkins and food are sold separate.

Activities include; a three-acre corn maze, three 100ft slides, corn slingshots, wagon rides to the area where you pick the pumpkin, an area to pet or watch animals such as horses, sheep and a goat They also have hay bales you can climb on, tubes to roll in, teeter-totters, corn-hole, a corn pit for little kids to play in and little wagon rides for younger kids that is pulled by a four-wheeler.

Most people do all the activities and then go pick pumpkins, so you aren’t dragging it around the whole farm. When you are ready for pumpkins though, you head back to the barn where you get your food and pictures. A wagon will come around to the front to pick up a group and take you to the patch. They have a variety of pumpkins ranging from; tiny, small, medium, large, huge, oval, circle, white, orange and eve green.

If you aren’t looking for a pumpkin, they also have gourds and squash. After picking your pumpkin you can ride the wagon back or walk and bring it back into the barn where you pay for them. They are priced by size, someone will look at the size and give you a price.
